General Tso's dish

The recipe was for General Tso's chicken, but I didn't do the chicken part. Here's the link http://www.recipezaar.com/General-Tsos-Chicken-266373

Here's how I adapted it:

Vegetables

* 1/2 head broccoli
* 1 1/2 cups julienned carrot
* 1/4 cup green onion
* 1/4 red pepper

Sauce

* 2 tablespoons minced garlic (or more if you like)
* 2 tablespoons minced ginger
* 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
* 3/4 cup hoisin sauce
* 1/4 cup sugar, and
* 1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar

I made/increased the sauce recipe by half and also added maybe a pound of thinly sliced beef for the non-vegans. I liked it, my mom liked it, my husband seemed to like it and the children mainly liked the beef. Anyway, it's something I'll definitely make again.

Hoisin Sauce

I made something gfcf and soy-free that my children liked, except for the vegetables, of course. I was searching for a soy-free recipe for Hoisin sauce, and found one at http://cookbad.blogspot.com/2008/02/hoisin-sauce-some-things-you-can-make.html

Here is my version of the ingredient list:
Hoisin Sauce
1/2 cup dried adzuki beans, rinsed and then cooked
2tbsp toasted sesame oil
1tbsp minced garlic
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup unseasoned rice vinegar
1 Tbsp molasses (to replace 1/3 cup soy sauce)
1/4 tsp dried red pepper flakes, or more to taste

I used canned black beans and pureed them. It was okay, but there was a link from another site to a recipe for General Tso's kitchen that I used my hoisin sauce in, and I love it.
